4-H Galaxy of Stars Applications Due

Each year Galveston County 4-H recognizes both its deserving youth members and its Adult Volunteer leaders through the Galaxy of Star Awards. These awards are the highest county level achievement awards in the 4-H program and the recipients will be announced at the 4-H Banquet at the end of the 4-H year. Please see the criteria for each award below. If you wish to apply or nominate an adult leader, please use the application form at the bottom of the page.

Youth applicants MUST turn in a recordbook. Youth may apply for one award per year.

Galaxy of Stars-Youth Awards

Gold Star Award Criteria

The Gold Star Award is the highest county level achievement award available through the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program. It will be awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. To maintain the quality of the award, the following criteria will be considered the minimum. Any 4-H member not meeting these criteria will not be considered for the award. The organization may choose not to award the Gold Star Award if there are not 4-H members in the county who exceed the minimum criteria.

  • Must have (at least) completed, or be completing their 9th grade school year at the time of application
  • Must have completed at least 3 years in 4-H, including the current year.
  • Must not have been previously awarded the Texas 4-H Gold Star Award
  • Must have completed projects in at least three (3) different project areas
  • Must have participated in one or more activities in at least three (3) of the following areas:
    • Projects and/or Project Exhibits
    • Participation in Leadership Experiences such as Leadership Labs, Texas 4-H Congress, or National Leadership Events such as National 4-H Congress/Conference, and any county, district, or state leadership group.
    • Competitive Events (judging, educational presentation, public speaking, food show, quiz bowls, etc.).
    • Citizenship activities
    • Camps at the county, district, or state level.
    • 4-H Promotion (speeches, poster displays, radio, TV, newspapers)
    • Other (includes exchange programs, fund raising)

    Note: The requirements for projects and activities do not all have to be completed in the current year. They may have been accomplished over the entire period of time the person has been in the program.

  • The member must have exhibited leadership skills by serving as a 4-H officer or committee chair (club, county, district or state), and/or as a junior or teen leader in an activity or project with or under the supervision of an adult volunteer leader.
  • The 4-H member must have participated in one or more community service activities. Examples include providing leadership to a One Day 4-H project, working with or counseling junior 4-H members; participating in community service projects (individual, group or club); and motivating other 4-H members through participation in demonstrations, projects and/or exhibits.
  • The 4-H member MUST SUBMIT A TEXAS 4-H RECORDBOOK in the year they are to be considered for the award.


Danforth-I Dare You Award Criteria

The Danforth- I Dare You Award is a National level achievement award available through the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program. It will be awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. To maintain the quality of the award, the following criteria will be considered the minimum. Any 4-H member not meeting these criteria will not be considered for the award. The organization may choose not to award the Danforth- “I Dare You” Award if there are not 4-H members in the county who exceed the minimum criteria. The maximum number of Danforth – “I Dare You” recipients in Galveston County County will not exceed two (2).

  • The 4-H member must be at least 15 years of age but not over 19 years of age as of August 31 of the current 4-H year at the time of application
  • Must have completed at least 3 years in 4-H, including the current year.
  • Must have completed projects in at least three (3) different project areas
  • Must have participated in one or more activities in at least three (3) of the following areas:
    • Project Exhibits
    • Participation in Leadership Experiences such as Leadership Labs, Texas 4-H Congress, or National Leadership Events such as National 4-H Congress/Conference, and any county, district, or state leadership group.
    • Competitive Events (judging, educational presentation, public speaking, food show, quiz bowls, etc.).
    • Citizenship activities
    • Camps at the county, district, or state level.
    • 4-H Promotion (speeches, poster displays, radio, TV, newspapers)

Silver Star Award Criteria

The Silver Star Award is the highest achievement award available to Intermediate level 4-H’ers through the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program. It will be awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. To maintain the quality of the award, the following criteria will be considered the minimum. Any 4-H member not meeting these criteria will not be considered for the award. The organization may choose not to award the Silver Star Award if there are not 4-H members in the county who exceed the minimum criteria.

  • Must be in the 6-8th grade school year at the time of application.
  • Must have completed at least three (3) years in 4-H, including the current year.
  • Must not have been previously awarded the Texas 4-H Silver Star Award
  • Must have completed projects in at least three (3) different project areas
  • Must have participated in one or more activities in at least two (2) of the following areas:
    • Projects and/or Project Exhibits
    • Participation in Leadership Experiences such as Leadership Labs, Texas 4-H Congress, or National Leadership Events such as National 4-H Congress/Conference, and any county, district, or state leadership group
    • Competitive Events (judging, educational presentation, public speaking, food show, quiz bowls, etc.).
    • Citizenship activities
    • Camps at the county, district, or state level.
    • 4-H Promotion (speeches, poster displays, radio, TV, newspapers)
    • Other (includes exchange programs, fund raising)

Bronze Star Award Criteria

The Bronze Star Award is the highest achievement award available to Junior level 4-H’ers through the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program. It will be awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. To maintain the quality of the award, the following criteria will be considered the minimum. Any 4-H member not meeting these criteria will not be considered for the award. The organization may choose not to award the Bronze Star Award if there are not 4-H members in the county who exceed the minimum criteria.

  • Must be at least 8 years old and in the 3rd grade- 5th grade.
  • Must have completed at least two (2) years in 4-H (may including the current year).
  • Must have completed projects in at least two (2) different project areas
  • Must have participated in one or more activities in at least two (2) of the following areas:
    • Projects and/or Project Exhibits
    • Participation in Leadership Experiences such as Leadership Labs, Texas 4-H Congress, or National Leadership Events such as National 4-H Congress/Conference, and any county, district, or state leadership group.
    • Competitive Events (judging, educational presentation, public speaking, food show, quiz bowls, etc.).
    • Citizenship activities
    • Camps at the county, district, or state level.
    • 4-H Promotion (speeches, poster displays, radio, TV, newspapers)
    • Other (includes exchange programs, fund raising)

Rookie of the Year Award Criteria

The Rookie of the Year Award is the highest achievement award available to first year members of 4-H. It will be awarded only once in a member’s 4-H career. To maintain the quality of the award, the following criteria will be considered the minimum. Any 4-H member not meeting these criteria will not be considered for the award. The organization may choose not to award the Rookie of the Year Award if there are not 4-H members in the county who exceed the minimum criteria.

  • Must have completed his/her first year in Galveston County 4-H, no matter what age.
  • Must have completed at least one (1) project.
  • Must have participated in one or more activities in at least one (1) of the following areas:
    • Projects and/or Project Exhibits
    • Participation in Leadership Experiences such as Leadership Labs, Texas 4-H Congress, or National Leadership Events such as National 4-H Congress/Conference, and any county, district, or state leadership group
    • Competitive Events (judging, educational presentation, public speaking, food show, quiz bowls, etc.).
    • Citizenship activities
    • Camps at the county, district, or state level.
    • 4-H Promotion (speeches, poster displays, radio, TV, newspapers)
    • Other (includes exchange programs, fund raising)
  • The 4-H member must have participated in one or more community service activities.

Galaxy of Stars-Adult Leader Awards

Outstanding Adult Leader Award Criteria

  • Outstanding adult leaders are outstanding 4-H club managers, project leaders, and volunteer leaders who serve in a leadership role within the 4-H program.
  • The recipients will be selected by a committee based on information submitted in the nomination form.
  • The Outstanding 4-H Adult Leader Award will be given to one or two outstanding adult leaders.
  • A 4-H leader can receive the award only once in a 7 year period.


Rookie Adult Leader Award Criteria

  • The Rookie 4-H Leader Award will be given to one or two 4-H adult leaders who have served not less than one year and not more than three years in Galveston County.
  • The recipients will be selected by a committee based on information submitted in the nomination form.
  • A 4-H leader can receive the award only once.


Friend of 4-H Award Criteria

  • The Friend of 4-H Awards will be given to an individual, business, company, or other group who has contributed to the success of 4-H in Galveston County. A husband and wife would receive one award and be counted as an organization.
  • This award should not be awarded to 4-H leaders or others who are directly involved in the 4-H Program.
  • The recipient will be selected by a committee based on information submitted in the nomination form.
  • A recipient can receive the award only once.



Galaxy of Stars-Club Community Service Award

Club Community Service Award Criteria

  • The Club Community Service Award will be given to 4-H Clubs in Galveston County that demonstrate how they have improved the lives of the citizens of Galveston County.
